Atwater, California – The Gems traveled down to take on the Atwater Aviators for a three game series. Tonight, The Gems and the Aviators played game one of the series, as Harrison Beethe was the starting pitcher for the Gems, and Nate McGhee started for the Aviators. It was tough night for the Gems, as McGhee dominated on the mound. The Aviators offense was able to get to Beethe early, and cruised to an 8-0 win.
The Aviators scored in the second, third, fourth, and fifth inning to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. The Aviators’ offense was led by Ryan Frakes, who went 4-5, with 2 doubles, and 4 RBI’s. Nikko Delgado also added a solo homerun for the Aviators’ as they put up 8 runs in the game tonight on 11 hits.
Nick McGhee was the difference maker in tonight’s game, as he threw a complete game shutout. McGhee only gave up one hit, as he struck out 9 Gems hitters. Harrison Beethe was the losing pitcher in tonight’s game, as he allowed 4 runs in 4 1/3 innings of work.
